Businesses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Industry are benefiting from the application of IT management systems which are proving to make processes more efficient. Recent figures have shown that businesses which chose to incorporate technology into their production of FMCG are expected to boost efficiency by approximately 20 per cent.

At least 15 per cent of a company”s income is forecast to be spent on IT by businesses which are seeking to improve their output levels. Businesses that sell FMCG include those which produce items that are used daily by consumers such as toiletries and cosmetics. However, other businesses such as those which deliver food to consumers homes or others selling their wares from stalls can also be considered as FMCG producers and can consequently benefit from effective IT Management of processes.

Areas which have seen the application of FMCG IT Management are varied and include technologies designed to keep track of the numbers of items produced, in addition to supplying information on shipments of goods and locations where products are manufactured. Businesses can also choose to incorporate IT management into many other areas which can ensure that companies are operating at a high level.

For instance, IT programmes can be incorporated into a business which enables the forecasting of future sales figures and consequently give an indication of income. Technology can also be installed that updates inventories across business areas and can draw attention to any deficits as well as providing information concerning resources and their allocation. Businesses that choose to install IT management systems often have the advantage of the competitive edge. Speed and quality of the goods is also expected to increase with IT input to the production process which can also lead to a reduction in cost due to a decline in waste.

Customer service is also an area which usually sees the benefits of FMCG IT Management as reduced costs are passed to consumers as quality improves.

Other knock-on effects of IT control of production is effective management of suppliers which aids organisation within the company and can consequently create a solid working atmosphere with high employee morale.
