The role of project management is a difficult one to take on. It requires a special type of person that can bring a diverse range of skills and abilities to the role. They must have an understanding of all the nuances involved in IT development. They must be flexible and able to engage with different parties from different backgrounds, be able to interpret what one group wants and needs are and translate that into something achievable, pragmatic and cost effective.

Many of the characteristics of a great IT project manager are also embodied in the Agile project management methodology.

Over the years methods for managing projects have changed substantially as the subjects of the projects have changed and the tools with which the project can be carried out have also changed.

Like most process transitions these changes occur as a long series of responsive iterations interspersed with occasional paradigm shifts that come about as a reaction to a perceived problem. The Agile methodology replicates this natural mode of progress in a systematic manner.

The manner in which these changes occur can depend on many factors such as the complexity of the ascribed task, the number of people involved and the difficulty of participants communicating.

Information technology project management ranks high in these factors. Few tasks are as complex as systems integration. There are also few tasks that have as many people involved relative to the size of the project with different backgrounds, different understandings and different perspectives of the processes involved.

Daysha consulting employ Agile project management in Ireland. Agile project development espouses several critical attitudes to project development and management that ensure projects proceed seamlessly.

The Agile process advocates self organization and task assignment over micromanagement. It also promotes close collaboration with the client rather than setting terms, boundaries and points of negotiation. Flexibility is also important. Being able to adapt to unexpected events that conflict with an established schedule is typically more productive than sticking to a predetermined course that cannot account for dynamic changes in the situation.

Daysha consulting provides professional Agile project management to companies in Ireland.
